One miner has died and 31 others are trapped in a flooded coal mine in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The accident happened at around 7:30 a.m on Monday at Mount Camel Coal Mine under construction in Wuhai City, about 600 kilometers from the regional capital Hohhot.

An initial investigation has shown that 77 miners were digging tunnels when their shaft became submerged in water. 46 were lifted to the ground, but one of them died later. Rescuers are now pumping water from the flooded areas. They are also trying to drill into the shaft to reach the miners trapped at two different depths.
