President Ts. Elbegdorj organized a meeting this Monday gathering Parliament Speaker D. Demberel, chairman of the Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Party faction D. Lundeejantsan, deputy chairman of the Democratic Party faction L. Gantomor, and head of the Standing committee on state structure O. Enkhtuvshin, to give them some directions in some issues.

The head of state said he considered a necessity for MPs to meet with protesters participating to a sit-down and hunger strike on Sukhbaatar Square and talk out the issue with them.

The president stated that “demands from the protesters should be considered in frames of the laws and measures taken to that effect,” while asking on the other hand that the protesters abstain from a type of protest that may harm their lives, health and freedom.

Elbegdorj recalled that in a democracy, every person has a right to voice his or her opinions, and that there are many ways to tackle problems. Nevertheless, the president insisted on negotiations taking place in democratic and open ways.

Thousands of protesters had gathered on Sukhbaatar square last Sunday 5 of April under the guidance of the Civil Movement leadership to demand the dissolution of Parliament and the completion of election promises. A sit-down strike due to last until demands are met was organized the following Monday. But since the Parliament refused to dissolve itself, some of the protesters have now started a hunger strike.
