Prime Minister Batbold Sukhbaatar on Monday discussed bilateral ties and cooperation with visiting U.S. Deputy Secretary of State of James B. Steinberg.

Batbold said Mongolia-U.S. relations are developing in good fashion and the two countries have made progresses in social, political and economic sectors, the official press office reported.

The United States remains a staunch supporter of Mongolia"s transition to a market economy and social as well as political democracy, Batbold said.

He said assistance programs managed by the U.S. Millenium Challenge Corporation are being implemented successfully in Mongolia.

Mongolia would continue to protect international and regional security and has dispatched peacekeepers to a series of global hot spots in partnership with the U.S. and many other countries, the prime minister said.

Steinberg said the U.S. values its relationship with Mongolia and will expand cooperation with the country by training Mongolian students and specialists in America.

Traveling for first time as deputy secretary of state, Steinberg has concluded visits to Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, and will fly to Japan on Tuesday to participate in a trilateral dialogue involving Japan, Australia and the United States.
