Prime Minister and newly elected MPRP chairman S. Batbold said during the party’s 11th conference that Mongolia faces challenging times as election campaign promises must be met to match citizens’ expectations, and this despite the national economy being under stress from the global crisis and this winter’s zud.

The new chairman also deplored during his address that a minority of people were calling for a revolution when what the country needs most is stability, peace, and unity to contribute to and achieve its sustainable development and reconstruction. He underlined that though the MPRP and the DP are fierce political competitors and will always fight each other for political power, they were now working together in solving problems in the interest of the nation, adding that the union had to continue for the sake of the country and its people.

He also called for patience, as he has no doubt the benefits of the OT agreement will soon be clear, and as many measures have been taken and projects approved to increase the life of Mongolia’s citizens and its economy in the near future. Money is being distributed from the Human Development Fund, new standards in education are being enforced, and a “Smokeless UB” program has been approved for implementation, he said. Meanwhile, business environment is being improved, private sector is being encouraged, financial market is being developed, state-owned companies are being made more efficient, and the construction and manufacturing sectors are being strengthened, added the PM.

S. Batbold reiterated the coalition government need for support, insisting that while criticisms and questions must be made and asked, this has to be done in an atmosphere of political and public stability, adding it was unfair to blame the government for the effects of the global crisis or of a natural disaster.

But the chairman did not omit to criticize how some officials act irresponsibly, disregarding the very people who elected them. He stated that this will not be tolerated anymore, announcing that the Executive Board has approved the procedures to evaluate and analyze officials’ activities. Soon, their performance will be assessed by the General Control Bureau, the Ethics Bureau and the Executive Board.

Finally, S. Batbold asserted that the MPRP will continue to play its historic and traditional role in stabilizing a democratic Mongolian polity, and that the party’s reconstruction projects will contribute in solvingthe country’s unemployment and poverty issues.
