Officials of the Academy of Sciences (AS) introduced last Friday to Prime Minister S. Batbold a project named “Central Complex for History and Culture of Central Asian Nomads”.

According to the AS, the complex is to be erected near a place called Khoshigtiin khondii, 40 km northwest of Ulaanbaatar city, where a new international airport is also planned to be constructed. The complex will hold 11 buildings, including a central museum of Central Asian nomads’ History and Culture, museum of Palaeontology, of hunnic studies, of Chingish Khaan, and of Culture, a gallery of the Mongolians in the 20th century, a sports arena, and a hotel.

It is expected that domestic and foreign tourism will increase after the construction of the new complex which, according to AS’s President B. Enkhtuvshin, will be “the biggest Research Centre on Mongolian studies and the part played by nomads in the development of mankind history. Prime Minister S. Batbold, who appreciated the project, said the State will support the creation of the complex, underlining that cultural heritage and exhibits shall be under its protection.

S. Batbold also suggested the AS studied the possibility to issue stocks at the Stock Exchange after founding a stock exchange company of the complex. The first stage of construction works is due to take place between 2010 and 2012, in coincidence with the 2220th anniversary of the first State of Central Asian nomads next year in 2011, and the 850 birth anniversary of Chingis Khaan in 2012.

The second and final stage of the project should resume in 2013 and terminate in 2015.
