Eznis Airways line to Bulgan in Khovd has reopened after about almost 18 months.

The resumption of service was prompted by concern for the people who were living in isolation in Bulgan and its two adjacent districts -- Altai and Uench -- in the Khovd province.

Separated from the rest of the country by the Altai Range, they have been almost marooned since the recent heavy snowfall and blizzards cut off road access to them.

The Eznis flights operate on Thursdays and Sundays. Significantly, for the first time in Mongolia, the Government is providing direct subsidies to a private airline to cover its operational losses.

Passengers will have to pay the full commercial fare between Ulaanbaatar and Khovd but the Khovd-Bulgan sector will cost them MNT60,000 only, with the Government agreeing to compensate Eznis for its loss.
