During consultations in Ulaanbaatar on 15 June, Lithuania’s Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Šarūnas Adomavičius and Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade of Mongolia Bayarbaatar Bolor discussed the most important aspects of bilateral political and economic relations, as well as cooperation in the areas of economy, transport, science, culture, education and renewable energy.

Vice-Minister Š.Adomavičius conveyed an invitation of Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis to Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade of Mongolia to pay a visit to Lithuania and suggested to organize a business mission to Lithuania. This way, the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Mongolia would also be marked.

During the consultations, the Mongolian delegation showed a keen interest in cooperation in the area of transportation and in playng an active role in the dialogue on transportation of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM). Lithuania initiated the dialogue in 2009.

Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade of Mongolia invited Lithuanian entrepreneurs to invest in Mongolia.

Vice-Minister Š.Adomavičius presented the experience of Lithuania’s Presidency of the Community of Democracies and the initiatives that were implemented. Mongolia will take over the Presidency of this organization from Lithuania in July 2011.

Officials of this country were also interested in the priorities and plans of Lithuania’s chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe in 2011.

Having opened talks on the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement with the European Union, Mongolia would like to hold consultations with Lithuania, because Lithuania has a wide experience in negotiating with the EU.

On 14 June in Ulaanbaatar, Vice-Minister Š.Adomavičius opened a consulate headed by Lithuania’s Honorary Consul in Mongolia Chinbat Khorolsuren.
